50K BRB GPS / APRS
Do you need to fly high? Really high?
The standard BRB GPS / APRS transmitters use the ublox-m8 series of GPS chipset. It is a well documented fact that these devices stop sending NMEA sentences when the altitude exceeds 50 kilometers. This version of the BRB GPS eliminates that problem by using a GPS module that continues to operate even when the altitude exceeds 50 kilometers.
The 'COCOM' limitations are still in place: the GPS will stop sending updated position reports if the altitude exceeds 18 kilometers AND the speed exceeds 1000 knots. When either the speed OR the altitude falls below these limits, the GPS will perform a cold reset and resume operation. There is no limit on the altitude.
The features of the BRBGPS50K are almost identical to the standard BRB GPS.
